In the early hours of a Saturday morning in Woodbury, New Jersey, the life of 21-year-old Tijere K. Jackson was tragically cut short. Police were called to Wing-Dickerson Park on Carpenter Street shortly before 1:30 a.m. where they discovered Jackson. He had sustained a single gunshot wound to his chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy later confirmed that the cause of death was the gunshot wound, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. Jackson was a male.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly as detectives quickly zeroed in on a juvenile suspect. Just a couple of hours after the discovery of Jackson's body, around 3:30 a.m., authorities located the unnamed juvenile being picked up in a vehicle. During the attempt to take the suspect into custody, the driver of the car, identified as 20-year-old James Workman of Barrington, pointed a firearm at the arresting officers.
Both the juvenile and Workman were subsequently taken into custody.
Following the initial arrests, the investigation led to charges against three individuals in connection with the fatal incident. The juvenile was charged with undisclosed offenses related to the homicide. Workman faced multiple charges, including aggravated assault on an officer for pointing a firearm, possession of a ghost handgun, and other weapons offenses. A third individual, 18-year-old Amante Black-Thompson of Woodbury, was also implicated and charged with criminal attempted robbery in relation to the homicide.
