In the quiet community of Meadowview, Virginia, the life of 41-year-old Ava Renee Morgan, a White female, was tragically cut short on January 6, 2023. A corrections officer at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority, she was found deceased in her home with apparent gunshot wounds.
The events leading to the discovery of her body began to unfold when her husband, 76-year-old George William Morgan, walked into the magistrate's office and confessed to killing someone.
He provided an address on Pocahontas Trail, which led deputies to the couple's residence. There, they found Ava Morgan's body.
Following his confession, George William Morgan was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He was subsequently held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority in Duffield. The investigation into Ava Morgan's death indicated that no other individuals were involved in the incident.
The legal proceedings that followed brought a close to the case. In February 2024, George Morgan pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of his wife. As a result of his plea, he was sentenced to life in prison for the crime.
