On a warm evening in Lake City, Georgia, on August 24, 2014, a 22-year-old African American man named Kadarius Deshawn Bailey was visiting with friends at the Rainwood Apartments on Harper Drive. Known to his loved ones as 'KD,' Bailey was sitting on an outside stairwell of Building 19, simply listening to music, when his life was abruptly cut short. In an act of sudden violence, an unknown assailant opened fire, shooting Bailey multiple times before fleeing the scene on foot.
Police and emergency services received a call for assistance at approximately 9:40 p.m. and arrived to find Bailey deceased on the stairs.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Lake City Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Bailey's death. Despite their efforts, including working with at least one witness, the case has grown cold over the years. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the murder of Kadarius Bailey. The GBI has classified his death as an unsolved homicide and continues to ask the public for any information that may lead to a breakthrough in the case.
Kadarius Bailey, a father of three children, is remembered by his family as a person who was full of life and brought joy to those around him. His mother, Gwendolyn Bailey, described him as 'the party person' who loved to make everyone laugh, dance, and sing. For his family, the pain of their loss is compounded by the lack of answers and justice for his murder. They have made public pleas for the person responsible to come forward and bring them some measure of closure as they continue to grieve their son, whose children are growing up with only memories and stories of the father they barely knew.
