In the early morning hours of March 19, 2023, a Virginia Beach resident named Detral Leron Dozier, a 21-year-old Black male, made a desperate call to 911. He reported that he had been shot. Emergency responders rushed to the 4700 block of Marlwood Way, where they found Dozier suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Detral Dozier was a young man with a future
ahead of him. He had graduated from Green Run High School and Vo-Tech in June 2020, where he earned a certificate in electrical work. At the time of his death, he was employed as a warehouse worker at SRP in Virginia Beach. He is survived by his parents, Shalissa Williams and Willie Dozier, as well as his siblings and other family members.
Following Dozier's death, the Virginia Beach Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Despite their efforts, no arrests have been made in connection with the case, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the investigation. They have encouraged anyone with knowledge of the shooting to contact the VBPD Homicide Unit or to provide anonymous tips through Crime Solvers.
