On the morning of May 6, 2023, the body of 25-year-old Tyosha Tanique Mitchell, a female from Richmond, was discovered by a jogger on the side of Old Williamsburg Road in Yorktown, Virginia. An investigation determined that she had been fatally shot multiple times. Mitchell was a mother of two.
The investigation into Mitchell's death revealed a connection to gang activity, specifically the Almighty Black P. Stone Nation gang, also known as the Mad Stone Bloods. Authorities believe Mitchell, who was a high-ranking female member of the gang, was killed after expressing her desire to leave the group. The events leading to her death began in the early morning hours of May 6, when several gang members went to her Richmond apartment and assaulted her for a 'gang infraction.' A witness stated that during the beating, Mitchell fell to the ground and curled into a fetal position before being stood up for the assault to continue. The assailants left but returned about an hour later, forced Mitchell into a vehicle, and drove her to the remote location in York County where she was shot and killed. Investigators found that at least 14 shots were fired, with Mitchell being struck eight times.
Five individuals were arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Tyosha Mitchell: Hezekiah 'H.K.' Carney, Jayquan Allen Jones, Jamica Danielle Langley, Acacia Jackson, and Donnisha Goodman. Due to the gang-related nature of the crime, the case was taken over by federal prosecutors. All five defendants ultimately pleaded guilty to federal charges.
Donnisha Goodman, identified as a 'First Lady' in the gang, and Jamica Langley were sentenced to 35 years and 20 years in prison, respectively. Hezekiah Carney and Jayquan Jones were each sentenced to 38 years in prison. Acacia Jackson was also scheduled for sentencing. The sentencings underscored the violent and senseless nature of the crime, which authorities described as a 'cold-blooded' act of gang violence.
