In the quiet community of Ruther Glen, Virginia, the life of 37-year-old Torrence Eugene 'Toe' Peyton came to a tragic end on July 15, 2023. A male of Black/African American descent, Peyton was discovered deceased in his residence, a place that should have been a sanctuary for his family. The devastating scene also included his wife, Jasmine Reina Peyton, who was found deceased alongside him.
Torrence Peyton was a man who dedicated his life to the service and protection of others.
After graduating from Westmoreland County Public Schools in 2003, he served for four years in the United States Air Force. His commitment to public safety continued as he went on to work as a Security Officer at Haynesville Correctional Center and later as a Law Enforcement Officer for the United States Department of Defense in Dahlgren, Virginia. Known for his warm and overwhelming smile, he was a beloved father, son, brother, and friend to many in his community.
The Caroline County Sheriff's Office responded to the home in the Belmont neighborhood, where both Torrence and Jasmine Peyton were pronounced dead. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths led authorities to believe the incident was a murder-suicide. According to sources close to the investigation, it is believed that Jasmine Peyton may have been responsible for her husband's death. It has been suggested that she took their children to the home of their grandparents before returning to the residence.
Given that the primary suspect in Torrence Peyton's death is also deceased, there have been no arrests made in the case. The community was left to mourn the profound loss of both individuals. Funeral services for Torrence Peyton were held at the Zion Baptist Church in Kinsale, Virginia, where family, friends, and colleagues gathered to honor the memory of a man known for his gentle kindness and dedication to his family and community.
