In the early morning hours of November 29, 2014, a gathering inside a home on Richmond Avenue in southeast Atlanta turned into a scene of violence. Marcus Gay, a 43-year-old African-American man, was present in the residence when assailants entered and opened fire. The chaotic and brutal shooting resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left two others wounded.
Gay, along with 19-year-old Joshua N. Barkley and 51-year-old Ricky Whitlock, was fatally wounded in the attack. The two other victims, a man and a woman, sustained gunshot wounds but survived. Atlanta police responded to the scene to find a grim aftermath and immediately began an investigation into the triple homicide.
Investigators believe the shooting was not a random act of violence, suggesting that the victims and the perpetrators were likely acquainted. Despite this belief and the presence of survivors, the case has remained unsolved for years. In an effort to generate leads, the Atlanta Police Department released composite sketches of individuals they identified as persons of interest.
