On a tragic Sunday, the life of 30-year-old Brittnee Yvonne Posey was cut short in her Triangle, Virginia home. On January 14, 2024, Posey, a female, became a victim of domestic violence when she was shot and killed by her husband. Her death marked the second homicide in Prince William County for the year 2024.
The events of that evening unfolded after family members received concerning text messages indicating a heated argument between Brittnee and her husband, 42-year-old Nicholas
Allen Smith Withrow. When family members arrived at the residence in the 18300 block of Cabin Road, they discovered a devastating scene. Both Brittnee and her husband were found deceased inside the home, each having sustained a gunshot wound.
An investigation by the Prince William County Police Department concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. Detectives determined that during the altercation, Withrow shot his wife before turning the firearm on himself. A firearm was recovered at the scene. Tragically, the couple's three-year-old daughter was present in the home at the time of the incident but was physically unharmed. The child was subsequently released into the care of family members. Long-time friends of Brittnee later revealed that there had been a history of domestic violence in the relationship and that she had attempted to seek help.
