On May 30, 2024, 28-year-old Jimmy Dee Hardwick of Hurt, Virginia, was fatally shot on Shula Drive in Pittsylvania County. Deputies from the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene around 8:15 p.m., where they found Hardwick with a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical assistance, Hardwick succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
