In the small community of Hurt, Virginia, the life of 28-year-old Jimmy Dee Hardwick was cut short on the evening of Thursday, May 30, 2024. That night, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office received a call reporting a shooting incident in the 1600 block of Shula Drive. Upon their arrival at approximately 8:15 p.m., deputies discovered a male individual, later identified as Hardwick, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate medical aid rendered at the scene, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The initial investigation revealed that a person of interest had fled the area before law enforcement arrived. A search of the vicinity was promptly initiated, leading to the swift apprehension of an individual without any further incident. The man taken into custody was identified as 50-year-old Barry David Davis of Gretna.
Following the investigation into the fatal shooting, Barry David Davis was arrested and charged with the murder of Jimmy Dee Hardwick. In addition to the murder charge, Davis faces a slate of other serious offenses. These include shooting from a vehicle to endanger persons, possession or transportation of a firearm by a convicted felon, use or display of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and reckless handling of a firearm. Davis was subsequently incarcerated at the Pittsylvania County jail and held without bond. The body of Jimmy Dee Hardwick was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office for the Western District of Virginia to officially determine the cause and manner of his death.
