Alexis Mary Leach, a 23-year-old woman from Conway, New Hampshire, was shot late on the night of April 25, 2024, inside an apartment at the River Turn complex at 36 Council Road. Police were called around 11:30 p.m. and found Leach suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck; she was taken to Memorial Hospital in Conway, where she died. An autopsy by the deputy chief medical examiner determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the neck and the manner of death was homicide.
Officers encountered 24-year-old Connor J. MacLeod at the scene. He and Leach were dating. The next day, authorities arrested MacLeod and charged him with manslaughter for recklessly causing her death. Investigators and neighbors described a chaotic scene around the time of the shooting, but officials emphasized there was no threat to the wider public.
As the case moved forward, a Carroll County grand jury later indicted MacLeod for reckless second-degree murder, alleging he recklessly caused Leach's death under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life by shooting her with a firearm. The indictment was announced in April 2025, with an arraignment date set in Carroll County Superior Court.
In July 2025, MacLeod pleaded guilty to manslaughter. In court, prosecutors said he shot Leach while attempting a risky maneuver with a gun he'd seen on YouTube. A judge sentenced him to 10 to 26 years in state prison and ordered counseling and educational programs during his incarceration.
