On September 14, 2014, 69-year-old Elizabeth "Betsy" Trombly was fatally shot multiple times by her son, 35-year-old John Trombly, in their Amherst, New Hampshire, home. John then took his own life with a single gunshot. An AK-47 assault rifle was found beside his body.
