She vanished along the short walk from her neighborhood to the bus stop, setting off a search that drew in family, neighbors, and authorities across Sullivan County.
The following afternoon, June 12, her body was discovered around 4:15 p.m.
off a roped-off dirt road along Quaker City Road in the nearby town of Unity, about five and a half miles from where she was last seen. An autopsy determined she died of asphyxiation. The isolated setting and the distance from her route to school suggested she had been abducted and taken to the remote spot where she was found.
More than five decades later, the case remains unsolved. In June 2025, the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office and the State Police Cold Case Unit announced a renewed look at the investigation, re-examining evidence, conducting new interviews, and pursuing fresh leads. Authorities have not announced any arrests or publicly identified suspects, and they continue to ask for tips from anyone who might know what happened that morning in Charlestown.
