In a quiet home in the Red Bank area of Lexington, South Carolina, a devastating act of violence shattered a family. On January 29, 2023, 48-year-old Chastity Lynne Busick, a female, and her 23-year-old daughter, Jasmine Alyse Bailey, were fatally shot. The incident, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Bliss Lane, was determined by authorities to be a domestic-related murder-suicide.
The perpetrator was Chastity's husband and Jasmine's stepfather, 55-year-old William Peter Busick.
After shooting his wife and stepdaughter multiple times, William turned the gun on himself. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, Chastity and Jasmine were pronounced dead. William was transported to a local hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was later pronounced dead.
A minor child was also present in the house at the time of the shootings but was physically unharmed. The Lexington County Sheriff's Department investigated the incident and assured the public that it was an isolated event with no ongoing threat to the community. Sheriff Jay Koon noted that the investigation would involve speaking with family and neighbors to gather more information about the circumstances that led to the tragic event.
