In the early morning hours of September 6, 2023, the life of 36-year-old Dominique Bolen Walker was tragically cut short in what authorities described as a violent home invasion in Lexington, South Carolina. The incident, which unfolded shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Prismatic Way, was a domestic violence situation that ended in a murder-suicide.
Dominique was at her home with her 9-year-old son when her ex-husband, 39-year-old Jamal A. Walker of Columbia, forced his way into the residence.
Responding to a 911 call about the home invasion, deputies from the Lexington County Sheriff's Department arrived to the sound of a gunshot inside the house. Upon entering, they were immediately met with gunfire, and one deputy was struck.
Following the shooting of the deputy, Jamal Walker fled the scene in Dominique's vehicle, crashing through the garage door to make his escape. This initiated a police pursuit involving the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, the Lexington Police Department, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol. During the chase, Jamal fired multiple shots at the pursuing officers. The chase ended miles away on Two Notch Road after law enforcement used tire deflation devices to stop the vehicle. When the car came to a stop, Jamal Walker exited the vehicle with a handgun, and more gunfire was exchanged. He was ultimately incapacitated and pronounced deceased at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
Back at the Prismatic Way home, deputies discovered Dominique Bolen Walker deceased. An autopsy would later confirm that she had been shot multiple times in the upper body. Her young son, who was present during the horrific event, was not physically harmed and was later released into the care of his grandfather. The couple had divorced in 2022, and records indicated that law enforcement had previously responded to Dominique's residence for reports of harassing phone calls from her ex-husband. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was called in to investigate the officer-involved shooting aspect of the incident.
