On February 9, 2023, 18-year-old Juan "JJ" Milford Jr. of St. Stephen, South Carolina, was found deceased along Highway 52 near the Williamsburg County line. A concerned citizen discovered his body and alerted authorities. The Berkeley County Coroner's Office later identified the victim as Milford and ruled his death a homicide.
