On March 12, 2023, 23-year-old Tristan McGill of Hanahan, South Carolina, was fatally shot during an altercation at the Stayover Lodge on McMillan Avenue in North Charleston. Officers from the North Charleston Police Department responded to reports of gunfire around 1:40 a.m. and discovered two men with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to local hospitals, where McGill succumbed to his injuries at the Medical University of South Carolina.
