In the quiet town of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, a grim discovery was made on April 23, 2023. The body of 29-year-old Vondrico L. Miller, a Black male from the nearby community of Ladson, was found in a wooded area off Vantage Lane. The Berkeley County Coroner's Office was called to the scene and an autopsy was scheduled to officially determine the cause of his death.

Authorities honed in on 22-year-old Daryl Dequan Deah Monte Vasconcellos of Moncks Corner. After executing search warrants in the Foxbank Plantation area and on Black Tom Road, investigators gathered enough evidence to take Vasconcellos into custody. He was subsequently charged with murder in connection with Miller's death and booked into the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.
