Betty Crouch James, an 86-year-old White female, died on Friday, May 12, 2023, in a heartbreaking incident that took place at her home. A resident of Aiken County for most of her life, her death was the result of a single gunshot wound.

Investigations by the Aiken County Coroner's Office revealed that Betty Crouch James was fatally shot by her 68-year-old son, Joe James, who then used the firearm on himself. Both mother and son were found deceased at the scene, each with a single gunshot wound.
