In the small town of Saint George, South Carolina, a family dispute over a tractor tragically escalated, leading to the death of 46-year-old Gregory Gene Crawford. A white male, Mr. Crawford was fatally shot on the afternoon of October 26, 2023, at his home on Seven Acres Road. The incident, which unfolded around 12:25 p.m., stemmed from a disagreement with his younger brother, 42-year-old Brian Crawford, concerning the sale of a piece of farm equipment.
The argument between the two
brothers turned violent when Brian Crawford reportedly went to his vehicle and retrieved a shotgun. According to witness statements, his initial attempt to fire the weapon at his brother was unsuccessful as the gun failed to discharge. He then allegedly returned to his vehicle, loaded a shell into the shotgun, and fired again, this time striking Gregory Crawford in the head. The Dorchester County Coroner's Office pronounced Gregory Gene Crawford dead at the scene at 2:30 p.m.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement arrived and took Brian Crawford into custody. He was subsequently arrested and faced charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Following his arrest, he was booked into the L.C. Knight Detention Center. The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office has continued to investigate the fatal shooting.
