A Christmas Day gathering in 2023 turned tragic in Aiken County, South Carolina, ending in the shooting death of 37-year-old Willie Trotty. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. at a residence on Plantation Road in the Jackson area. An argument between Trotty and another man, identified as 26-year-old Jean Pierre Washington, escalated into violence.
Deputies from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about the shooting and found Trotty unresponsive with multiple gunshot
wounds. Despite receiving aid from the deputies until emergency medical services arrived, Trotty succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Witnesses at the residence identified Washington as the gunman, and he was taken into custody by law enforcement.
Following the investigation, Jean Pierre Washington, a resident of Jackson, was arrested and charged with manslaughter and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He was subsequently booked into the Aiken County Detention Center. The Aiken County Coroner's Office confirmed the cause of death and scheduled an autopsy.
