In a tragic turn of events on the evening of February 24, 2024, 43-year-old Tracy Samm McEvoy, a White female, was killed in her Goose Creek, South Carolina, home. She was not the only victim that night; her 15-year-old son, William Allen 'AJ' McEvoy Jr., also lost his life.
Goose Creek Police Department officers were dispatched to the residence on Water Oak Drive around 9:43 p.m. following a 911 call about an intoxicated man with a gun who was holding people hostage.
Upon their arrival, police surrounded the home and attempted to establish contact with the individuals inside. When their attempts were unsuccessful, the SWAT team made entry into the house.
Inside, they discovered the bodies of Tracy McEvoy, her son AJ, and 43-year-old Nicholas Hegwein. All three had died from gunshot wounds in what investigators later determined to be a domestic-related double murder-suicide. Hegwein was identified as Tracy's boyfriend and the perpetrator of the killings.
Further investigation revealed a history of domestic violence involving Hegwein. He had been arrested in November 2023 for second-degree domestic violence after an incident where he allegedly pushed Tracy's head into a dishwasher. The charges were ultimately dropped after Tracy recanted her statement. Records also showed that Hegwein had a criminal history with multiple charges dating back to 1999, which included assault and battery, as well as pointing and presenting a firearm.
