On a tragic evening in Mauldin, South Carolina, the life of 52-year-old Kim Melissa Pruneau Thrift was cut short in a senseless act of violence. On March 23, 2024, the White female found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time, accompanying her friend and real estate colleague, Mariellen Bessent Minor, to the Arbors at Brookfield Apartments. The purpose of their visit was for Mariellen to pick up her children from her estranged husband, Christopher Minor.
What began as a parental exchange quickly escalated into a violent domestic dispute.
Inside a vehicle at the apartment complex, an argument erupted between Mariellen and Christopher Minor. In a horrifying turn of events, Christopher opened fire, fatally shooting both his estranged wife and Thrift. When Mauldin Police responded to reports of gunfire around 6 p.m., they discovered a grim scene. Thrift was found deceased inside a vehicle from multiple gunshot wounds, while Mariellen Minor lay beside it, having also succumbed to her injuries. The two children, who were the subject of the exchange, were present at the apartment during the shooting, though it remains unclear if they witnessed the horrific events unfold.
In the aftermath of the deadly shooting, law enforcement immediately identified 50-year-old Christopher Minor as the suspect and issued warrants for his arrest on two counts of murder. A search for him ensued, but it came to a somber conclusion the following morning. Park rangers at Baker Creek State Park in McCormick County, about 80 miles from the crime scene, discovered Christopher Minor's unoccupied vehicle. A subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of his body by Lake Thurmond. Authorities determined that he had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, bringing a grim end to the tragic saga that claimed three lives and left a community in mourning.
