In a tragic turn of events on a Saturday evening in Mauldin, South Carolina, 41-year-old Mariellen Bessent Minor, a female, lost her life in a violent encounter. The incident unfolded on March 23, 2024, in the parking lot of the Arbors at Brookfield apartment complex. Mariellen, accompanied by her friend Kim Melissa Thrift, 52, had gone to the residence of her estranged husband, Christopher Minor, to pick up the two children they shared.
An argument erupted between the separated couple, which escalated with devastating consequences.
Christopher Minor, 50, opened fire, fatally shooting both his estranged wife and her friend. Mariellen was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds lying beside a vehicle, while Kim was found deceased inside the car, also having been shot multiple times. Police reports indicate that Mariellen had been living with her friend in Greenville County during the separation from her husband. While authorities noted there appeared to be a history of domestic violence, no official reports had been filed. The couple's children were present at the apartment at the time of the shooting and were later placed in the care of family members.
After the shooting, Christopher Minor fled the scene, prompting a search by law enforcement. Warrants were issued for his arrest on two counts of murder and firearm possession charges. The manhunt concluded the following morning, approximately 80 miles away at Baker Creek State Park. A park ranger discovered Minor's unoccupied vehicle, and a subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of his body by Lake Thurmond.
