In the late hours of May 26, 2024, the life of 20-year-old Keonna Lashae Brown was tragically cut short in Ladson, South Carolina. A festive atmosphere at a large party on Tremont Avenue turned to one of horror when gunfire erupted. Responding to the scene around midnight, deputies from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office discovered Keonna with a fatal gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the incident, it was estimated that approximately 100 people were in attendance at the gathering.
Keonna, a young Black/African American woman from Hollywood, South Carolina, was remembered by loved ones as a fun, smart, and kindhearted individual. Her sudden and violent death has left her family, including her mother, Tiffany Gregory, devastated and searching for answers. The family has publicly called for justice and for anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation. They held a celebration of her life on June 4, 2024, at Grace Cathedral in Hollywood, followed by her burial at St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery.
In the wake of the shooting, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office has been actively investigating the homicide. Sheriff Kristin Graziano made a public plea, urging any of the numerous party attendees to break their silence and provide any details that might lead to the identification of the person or persons responsible for Keonna's death. As of late 2025, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek leads from the community to bring a sense of closure to a grieving family.
