In the early morning hours of August 5, 2024, tragedy struck in Spartanburg, South Carolina, claiming the life of 17-year-old Alile I'xavious Young. A student at Spartanburg High School, the young Black man was fatally shot at the Pine Lake Village apartments on South Pine Lake Drive. The incident unfolded around 3 a.m., when officers from the Spartanburg Police Department were dispatched to the scene.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a somber scene with multiple young people
attempting to render aid to Young, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his stomach. He was quickly transported to Spartanburg Medical Center for emergency treatment, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity and that the cause of death was the single gunshot wound.
In the wake of this devastating loss, Alile's family, including his mother Kourtney Reed, were left to grapple with the sudden and unexpected tragedy. Funeral services were held on August 17, 2024, at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, followed by his burial. While the Spartanburg Police Department has indicated that they have located all individuals involved in the incident, no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed in connection with Alile Young's death. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing as a community mourns the loss of a young life cut short.
