In the quiet town of Pelzer, South Carolina, a grim discovery was made on the morning of September 18, 2024. A resident noticed an unfamiliar vehicle, a blood-soaked Mazda CX-7, parked in their front yard on Highway 8 and alerted the authorities. When Greenville County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived shortly before 8:00 a.m., they found the body of a woman in the passenger seat.
The 41-year-old female, Mindy Lee McDonald, had sustained at least one gunshot wound.
An autopsy confirmed that a gunshot wound was the cause of McDonald's death. Originally from Shelby, Ohio, she was a graduate of Woodmont High School and had studied at Greenville Technical College. Her obituary described her as a beloved mother and grandmother, an 'amazing, beautiful, strong woman' who 'lived her best life.' She was survived by her six children and two grandchildren.
The investigation into her death quickly progressed. Authorities identified a suspect, 40-year-old Phillip Charles Reeves. Investigators believe that Reeves shot McDonald while they were both inside the vehicle. He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a certain crime. Reeves is currently being held at the Greenville County Detention Center without bond as the case awaits legal proceedings.
