In the quiet, rural community of Wedgefield, South Carolina, a grim discovery was made on the morning of Saturday, October 12, 2024. The body of 20-year-old D’ante Jashaun Archie was found lying unconscious in the 5000 block of Byas Road. A 911 call brought Sumter County Sheriff's Office deputies to the scene at approximately 9:50 a.m. Upon their arrival, it was determined that Archie was deceased, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
His vehicle was found parked nearby on the road.
D'ante, a resident of Sumter County, was born on May 26, 2004. He was a 2023 graduate of Lakewood High School and had begun a career with Thompson Industrial Services. In his personal life, he was known for his love of riding dirt bikes and playing on his PS5. Those who knew him described him as a loving, strong-willed, and independent young man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
The investigation into Archie's death quickly led law enforcement to consider a possible connection to another shooting that had occurred earlier that same morning. At around 2 a.m., reports of a shooting on Duffie Drive, less than a mile from where D'ante's body was discovered, were received by the sheriff's office. While details about the earlier shooting were not immediately released, it became a significant element in the developing investigation into Archie's homicide.
Within days of the discovery of D'ante Archie's body, the Sumter County Sheriff's Office made arrests in the case. Two cousins, Jaqual Jamaul Coleman and 19-year-old Jordan Malik Coleman-Jacobs, were taken into custody as suspects in the murder. The investigation remains ongoing, with law enforcement continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses to piece together the events that led to the untimely death of the young man. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to formally determine the cause of death.
