In the early hours of April 1, 2023, the life of 18-year-old Cameron Pace Mohr was cut tragically short. A White male, Mohr was with a group of other teenagers on Line Creek Road in Morton, Mississippi, when the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. According to the Scott County Sheriff, a young man in the group, under the impression that a pistol was unloaded, pulled the trigger. A single shot was fired, striking Mohr in the neck. Despite being rushed to Scott Regional Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Cameron, known to his loved ones as 'Pace,' was remembered as a carefree and country-loving young man with a passion for making people laugh. Born on November 26, 2004, he resided with his parents in Brandon, Mississippi. After attending East Rankin Academy, he enrolled in a diesel mechanic program at Hinds Community College, a reflection of his love for working on engines. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing with friends. His sudden death left a deep void in the lives of his family and friends.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the individual who fired the weapon called 911 to report what he described as an accident. He then administered CPR to Mohr until emergency responders arrived at the scene. The Scott County Sheriff's Office began an investigation into the shooting, interviewing witnesses to piece together the events of that night. At the time, no charges were filed against the shooter. The case was slated to be presented to the district attorney to determine if any legal action was warranted.
