In the spring of 2023, the life of a young man was tragically cut short in a burst of violence that unfolded at a gas station in Gautier, Mississippi. Maurice Latrell Shannon Jr., a 20-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on the afternoon of April 3, 2023. The incident, which took place at the Pure gas station on Ladnier Road, sent ripples of shock and grief through the community.
