In the late hours of a Thursday night in Water Valley, Mississippi, the life of 20-year-old Jarion Jones was tragically cut short. On September 14, 2023, Jones was shot multiple times, and despite the efforts of those who arrived on the scene, he was pronounced dead. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear to investigators who began the search for who was responsible for the young man's death.
Jones was a graduate of Water Valley High School.
The investigation into the homicide led authorities to a 17-year-old suspect, Jaquinn Telford. After being on the run, Telford turned himself in to the police on the Monday following the shooting. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Jarion Jones. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life while the legal process against the accused began.
