Danny Earl Irby, a 59-year-old Black male, was a man who deeply valued his family and faith. Born and raised in Meridian, Mississippi, he was known for being outspoken and encouraging his nieces to prioritize their education. He had a passion for brick masonry and landscaping. In his later years, he dedicated his time to caring for his family home and his dog, King.
On October 3, 2023, Irby's life was tragically cut short when he was shot and killed at his residence in the 2600 block of 17th Street in Meridian. His death was the result of gun violence, a loss that was deeply felt by his seven siblings and the wider community. The incident prompted an investigation by the Meridian Police Department as they sought to bring justice for Irby and his family.
In July 2025, a breakthrough in the case came when the Meridian Police Department announced the arrest of 25-year-old Ketwantavius Dean. Dean was charged with murder in connection with Danny Irby's death. At the time of this new charge, Dean was already in custody at the Lauderdale County Detention Center, having been arrested in June for a separate homicide. A bond for the murder charge in Irby's case was set at $1 million.
