In the autumn of 2023, the life of Timothy D. Vaughn Jr., a 27-year-old Black male from Jackson, Mississippi, was tragically cut short. On the evening of October 27, 2023, police were called to Cardinal Street where they made a grim discovery. Vaughn was found inside a vehicle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds that proved to be fatal. His death, just weeks before he would have turned 28, was quickly ruled a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Jackson Police Department.
The investigation into Vaughn's death moved swiftly. Within weeks, authorities had identified a person of interest. On November 6, 2023, the Jackson Police Department announced that they had made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting. The suspect was identified as Cedric Liddell. Officer Sam Brown of the Jackson Police Department confirmed Liddell's apprehension for the murder of Timothy Vaughn.
Following his arrest, Cedric Liddell was formally charged with the murder of Timothy Vaughn. The legal proceedings against him began, and on December 5, 2023, a judge denied bond for Liddell, ensuring he would remain in custody as the case against him progressed. The community was left to mourn the loss of Vaughn, who was born on November 16, 1995, to Timothy D. Vaughn Sr. and Tasha Smith.
