In the quiet community of Ansley in Lakeshore, Mississippi, the life of 61-year-old Marvin Schwartz was brought to a violent and tragic end on October 28, 2023. A lifelong resident of the area, Marvin was known for his loving heart and dedication to his family and friends. The White/Caucasian male was a father, grandfather, and beloved 'cool' uncle.
The events that led to his untimely death unfolded in the early morning hours, shortly before 6 a.m.
An argument between Marvin and his 25-year-old nephew, Devin Schwartz, escalated to a fatal confrontation. Following the dispute, Devin Schwartz allegedly fired between eight and twelve rounds into his uncle's home from the outside. It was Marvin who was struck by the gunfire, sustaining fatal injuries inside his own residence.
In a surprising turn of events, it was Devin Schwartz himself who contacted authorities, calling 911 to report that he believed he had shot someone. He then proceeded to the Bay St. Louis Police Department, who in turn notified the Hancock County Sheriff's Office. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was also called to process the crime scene.
As a result of the investigation, Devin Schwartz was arrested and charged with the first-degree murder of his uncle, Marvin Schwartz. He is currently being held at the Hancock County Detention Center without bond. The community was left to mourn the loss of a man described as hardworking and devoted, with a memorial service held on November 19, 2023, at the Lakeshore Community Center to honor his memory.
