On December 24, 2023, 10-year-old Ladarius Nesbitt from Lambert, Mississippi, was fatally shot in Friars Point. According to the Coahoma County Sheriff's Office, around 9 p.m., Ladarius and his 14-year-old brother were driving their father's car in the downtown area when they were followed by multiple vehicles.
