In the early evening of January 4, 2024, a routine traffic stop in Lucedale, Mississippi, turned into a tragedy that ended the life of a dedicated law enforcement officer. George County Sheriff's Deputy Jeremy Malone, a 44-year-old male, was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Dollar General on Highway 98. He had been with the department for a number of years, serving his community diligently.
