In what was described as a grim and tragic turn of events, the life of Dianna Marie Raymond, a 27 or 37-year-old female from Plain Dealing, Louisiana, was cut short in a violent act that ended in Meridian, Mississippi. The events leading to the discovery of her body began to unfold on a Monday evening, February 19, 2024, when the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office received a distressing 911 call from a resident in the Meehan community.
The caller reported witnessing a disturbing scene: an assault, followed by the victim being placed into the bed of a black pickup truck.
The concerned citizen bravely followed the truck as it traveled east onto Interstate 20, providing crucial, real-time updates to law enforcement who were en route. The pursuit came to an end when a Meridian Police officer initiated a traffic stop after the truck exited the interstate and headed north on 65th Avenue. When the officer ordered the driver out of the vehicle, there was no response. This silence prompted a more cautious approach, and upon the arrival of other officers, they discovered the driver was deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A more horrifying discovery awaited the investigators in the bed of the truck. Underneath a cover, they found the body of Dianna Marie Raymond. The driver was later identified as 51-year-old Edgar Wayne Richardson Jr., also of Plain Dealing, Louisiana. The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. Investigators believe that Richardson shot and killed Raymond before putting her body in his truck and driving to Meridian, where he then took his own life. The investigation into the motive and the circumstances leading up to this tragic event continues, with law enforcement asking anyone with information to come forward.
