In the late hours of a Saturday night in Cleveland, Mississippi, tragedy befell 23-year-old Jametrice Brown, a Black/African American female. On May 4, 2024, police were called to a residence on Geneva Circle just before midnight, where they discovered that Brown had been shot. She was rushed to Bolivar Medical Center, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The incident also left another woman, Martha Harris, injured. Harris was transported to a local hospital for treatment. In a turn of events, following an investigation by the Cleveland Police Department, Martha Harris was arrested and charged with the murder of Jametrice Brown.
After her arrest, Harris had an initial court appearance where her bond was set at $100,000. The case was then expected to be handed over to the Bolivar County District Attorney for prosecution. While authorities confirmed the shooting and the subsequent arrest, the specific circumstances that led to the fatal altercation remained under investigation.
