On a Tuesday evening in Clarksdale, Mississippi, the sound of gunfire shattered the night, leaving a community in mourning and a family searching for answers. On September 24, 2024, 37-year-old Erntray Bailey was found dead, the victim of numerous gunshot wounds. The a 37-year-old male, was discovered by police after they responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired in the 700 block of Lincoln Street at approximately 7:50 p.m.
Upon their arrival, officers were met with a grim scene. Not only was Bailey deceased, but two houses and a vehicle in the vicinity had also been struck by bullets, indicating the indiscriminate nature of the violence that had unfolded. Fortunately, no one else was reported to have been injured in the incident. The shooting marked a grim milestone for the city, becoming the 16th homicide in what was proving to be a violent year for Clarksdale.
In the days and weeks that followed, the Clarksdale Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting.
