In a tragic turn of events on a Tuesday afternoon in Detroit, a verbal dispute at the intersection of Florence and Forrer streets escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 65-year-old Anthony Duane Tyner. On January 10, 2023, at approximately 3:27 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting and discovered Mr. Tyner lying face down on the sidewalk.
He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and despite the arrival of medics, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The argument that led to the deadly confrontation allegedly involved 47-year-old Jermayne Dale Fields, also of Detroit. According to authorities, the altercation between Tyner and Fields intensified, culminating in Fields allegedly producing a handgun and firing it multiple times, fatally wounding Tyner. The incident left the community shaken and searching for answers as to what could have precipitated such a violent outcome from a simple argument.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Jermayne Dale Fields was identified as the suspect and subsequently arrested. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office brought several serious charges against him, including one count of first-degree murder, one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of felony firearm. Fields was arraigned in 36th District Court and was remanded to jail. Further court proceedings were scheduled, with a Probable Cause Conference set for January 27, 2023, and a Preliminary Examination scheduled for February 3, 2023, before Judge Kenneth King.
