Millsap's five-year-old daughter had been kidnapped and was being held captive by a suspect, Dangelo Cash Clemons, who was 29 at the time. The young girl's bravery in signaling for help from a window ultimately led to her rescue and the uncovering of the double homicide. She reportedly referred to her captor as 'the monster.'
Following the discovery, Dangelo Cash Clemons was arrested and faced a litany of serious charges. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office charged him with one count of felony murder, one count of first-degree murder, and two counts of felony firearm in connection with the deaths of Colby Austin Millsap and Larry Brown. These charges were in addition to separate charges of kidnapping and child enticement related to the abduction of Millsap's daughter.
Clemons was arraigned in the 36th District Court, where a probable cause conference was scheduled for August 20, 2021, and a preliminary examination for August 27, 2021. The initial bond for the kidnapping charge was set at $250,000 with a GPS tether.
