A beloved 29-year-old nurse, Patrice Wilson, tragically lost her life in May 2023. A mother to a young son, she was dedicated to her career of helping others at Detroit Receiving Hospital. Her life was cut short in a horrifying sequence of events that began in the hospital's parking lot as she was leaving her shift. Wilson was reportedly attempting to end her relationship with her ex-boyfriend, 36-year-old Jamere Miller, at the time of her death.
On the morning of May 13, 2023, Miller
allegedly disguised himself with a wig, hat, and glasses and waited for Wilson in the hospital parking lot. As she got into her car, he is said to have approached the vehicle and fired a handgun multiple times, fatally wounding her. Miller then reportedly got into the driver's seat of Wilson's car and fled the scene. Later that day, Wilson's car was discovered in Novi, and her body was found in the rear of the vehicle. The following day, Jamere Miller turned himself in to the Detroit police.
Jamere Miller was charged in connection with the homicide of Patrice Wilson. In October 2023, he pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder. This plea was part of an agreement that resulted in the dismissal of several other charges, including first-degree murder, felony murder, carjacking, armed robbery, and firearm offenses. In November 2023, Miller was sentenced to 35 to 60 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections. During the sentencing, Wilson's family had the opportunity to confront him in court, expressing their profound grief and anger over their loss.
