On the evening of January 20, 2023, tragedy struck in the 500 block of Richwood Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland, forever altering the lives of a local family. Dion L. Brandon Jr., a 19-year-old Black male, was found by police suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m., a time when the city was otherwise settling into a Friday evening.
First responders rushed the young man to Johns Hopkins Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, Brandon succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The violence of that night was not limited to a single victim. As investigators processed the scene on Richwood Avenue, another man, aged 22, was discovered in the 4800 block of York Road, also suffering from gunshot wounds to his arm and abdomen. He was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. Homicide detectives with the Baltimore Police Department were tasked with unraveling the events that led to the shooting of both men.
In the days that followed, the family of Dion L. Brandon Jr. prepared to lay their loved one to rest. A viewing was held on February 6, 2023, at Vaughn Greene Funeral Services in Randallstown, followed by a homegoing celebration the next day at the Vaughn Greene Randallstown Chapel. He was interred at Arbutus Memorial Park Cemetery. As of now, public records do not indicate that any arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, nor have any suspects been publicly identified. The investigation into the death of Dion L. Brandon Jr. and the shooting of the second victim remains ongoing, leaving a community to mourn and await answers.
