In the early evening of February 5, 2023, the life of 16-year-old Andres Moreno Jr. was tragically cut short on the streets of Baltimore. A student at Edmondson Westside High School, the Black male teenager was walking in the 1800 block of East 29th Street when he was fatally shot. The incident occurred at approximately 6:16 p.m. in the Coldstream-Homestead-Montebello neighborhood, an area across the city from where he attended school.
Officers in the vicinity heard the gunshots and,
along with a Shot Spotter alert, were drawn to the scene where they found Moreno unresponsive. Despite their immediate life-saving efforts, the young man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the location. Witnesses described a harrowing scene, with one recalling hearing multiple gunshots and seeing Moreno fall to the ground, crying out for help. The sudden violence left the community shaken, mourning the loss of another young life.
In the wake of the shooting, Baltimore City police launched an investigation into the death of Andres Moreno Jr. Detectives canvassed the neighborhood, going door-to-door in search of any information that could lead to a suspect. Authorities publicly appealed for assistance and Metro Crime Stoppers offered a reward of up to $8,000 for information that would lead to an arrest in the case. As of the latest available reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder, and police have not publicly identified any suspects. The investigation remains ongoing as his family and community await justice.
