On August 18, 2023, 57-year-old Darrell Benner of Baltimore, Maryland, was fatally shot while attempting to intervene in a carjacking involving his nephew. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of South Curley Street in the Canton neighborhood.
