In the winter of 2023, the life of 17-year-old Tre'shaun Harmon was tragically cut short on a Monday evening in Towson, Maryland. On February 20th, Baltimore County Police were called to the vicinity of East Joppa Road and Delaware Avenue around 7:15 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Harmon suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The teenager was rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Harmon was a student at Reginald F. Lewis High School in Baltimore City. In the days that followed, friends and family gathered for a vigil to honor his memory at North Harford Park.
The investigation into the shooting continued for several months. Detectives learned that the incident occurred behind BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse, where an argument had reportedly taken place between Harmon and a group of individuals. Surveillance footage from the restaurant captured a muzzle flash near a rear door, after which a suspect was seen re-entering the establishment.
A significant breakthrough in the case came on July 12, 2023, when Baltimore County homicide detectives announced an arrest. Freedom Disean Brown, a 19-year-old employee of the restaurant at the time of the incident, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Harmon's death. Investigators had spoken with Brown in June, at which point he admitted to being at work on the night of the shooting but denied being the triggerman. A confidential source, however, informed police that an individual named 'Free' had been in a verbal altercation with the victim just before gunshots were heard.
At the time he was charged with Harmon's murder, Brown was already incarcerated at a Baltimore City jail awaiting trial on unrelated charges. It was also reported that he was facing charges for a 2021 murder in Baltimore City that occurred when he was 17 years old. Following the charges in the Harmon case, Brown was held on a no-bail status.
