The incident occurred at approximately 9:59 p.m. in the 4000 block of East Pratt Street in Baltimore, Maryland. Originally from Honduras, he had come to the United States to create a better life for his family. Known as an outgoing and fun-loving man, his children were the center of his world.
On that Friday evening, Lopez Ortiz had gone to a
restaurant in the Baltimore Highlands neighborhood to play pool. It was outside this establishment that he was reportedly assaulted and shot. When Baltimore Police Department officers from the Southeast District arrived at the scene, they found Lopez Ortiz suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Delmyn Javier Lopez Ortiz succumbed to his injuries three days later, on March 13, 2023. The case was then classified as a homicide, and the investigation was taken over by Southeast District shooting detectives.
