On a late spring evening in Temple Hills, Maryland, the life of 18-year-old Kaden Askew was tragically cut short. On May 28, 2023, at approximately 9:55 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the night in the 6100 block of Summerhill Road. When officers from the Maryland-National Capital Park Police arrived at the scene, they discovered Askew outside, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, the young man from Suitland was pronounced dead at the scene. Kaden was an African American male.
The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit promptly took over the investigation into the fatal shooting. Detectives began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to Askew's death, working to identify any potential suspects and a motive for the senseless act of violence.
To encourage community assistance in solving the case, authorities offered a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that would lead to an arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for the murder.
Despite the ongoing investigation and the financial incentive for information, the case has remained unsolved. As of late 2024, there have been no arrests announced in connection with the homicide of Kaden Askew. The community continues to mourn the loss of a young life, while law enforcement officials continue their appeal for anyone with knowledge of the shooting to come forward. The investigation remains active as detectives continue to seek justice for Kaden Askew and his family.
