In the summer of 2023, the life of a promising young man, Kelvin Siem, was tragically cut short on the streets of Baltimore. A 24-year-old Black male, Siem was found with gunshot wounds in the rear of the 1300 block of Bonsal Street on the afternoon of Monday, June 5th. The call reporting the shooting came in at approximately 1:02 p.m., and officers arrived to a grim scene. Emergency medical services were dispatched and transported Siem to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals at Johns Hopkins-Bayview Medical Center, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Kelvin Siem was remembered as a caring and giving individual, a bright light in the lives of those who knew him. He had been a talented athlete in his high school years, excelling in both soccer and wrestling at Absegami High School in Galloway Township. His passion for soccer continued after graduation, as he went on to play at both Atlantic Cape Community College and Manor College. The news of his violent death sent ripples of grief through his community, leaving friends and family to mourn the loss of a young man with a promising future.
In the wake of the shooting, the Baltimore Police Department's Homicide detectives launched an investigation into Siem's death. As of the latest available reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the identification and apprehension of a suspect or suspects.
