Kurt Modeste, a 56-year-old off-duty Metrobus driver from La Plata, Maryland, was tragically killed on July 2, 2023, during a violent carjacking spree that unfolded in Capitol Heights. The incident began around noon when Daeyon Ross, a 22-year-old man from Washington, D.C., initiated a series of carjackings that resulted in Modeste's death and the killing of two dogs.
