In the late evening of August 30, 2023, tragedy struck in a Baltimore neighborhood. Thomas Bekele, a 26-year-old Black male, was found with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. The incident occurred at approximately 10:26 p.m. in the 500 block of Wellesley Street. Officers from the Baltimore Police Department responded to reports of a shooting and discovered the unresponsive victim.
Despite the immediate arrival of medics, Thomas Bekele was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Homicide detectives were called in and have been leading the investigation into the shooting. To date, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or persons of interest in connection with the homicide. The case remains an open and active investigation, with detectives seeking any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for his death.
In an effort to generate new leads, the case has been classified as a cold case. Law enforcement has periodically re-released information about the murder to the public. A reward of up to $8,000 is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest in the case. Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of the shooting to contact the Homicide Unit or to provide anonymous tips through Metro Crime Stoppers.
